NORTH SHORE HOSTS “Sunset
on the Beach”
Oahu’s North Shore community is poised to host thousands
of visitors to the third annual “North Shore – Sunset
on the Beach” at Hale’iwa Alii Beach Park on
Saturday and Sunday, October 2 & 3, from 11 am to 10
pm.
“I commend the efforts of the North Shore Chamber
of Commerce and the North Shore community for their outstanding
ability to bring together this tremendous family event,” said
Mayor Jeremy Harris. “Our Rediscover Oahu weekends
have proven to be an economic success as well as a wonderful
opportunity to showcase communities around Oahu,” he
added.
FUN FILLED WEEKEND ACTIVITIES
The weekend offers two days
of fun in the sun and activities, great food, fabulous entertainment,
blockbuster movies, Ohana Village and Open Marketplace. Sixteen
local restaurants will feature their ethnic and signature
dishes at very affordable prices. The event is free and open
to the general public.
NON STOP LIVE ENTERTAINMENT
Non-stop entertainment on the
main stage begins daily from 11 am and will feature outstanding
local artists. On Saturday, the entertainment lineup will
include: The Nakamura Brothers, Open Jar, the BYUH Jazz Band,
Power 3-0, Na Leo Nani Halau, and Paula Fuga. On Saturday
artists include; North Shore Dance, Jack Fish, Surf Jam,
Na Leo Nahenahe ‘O Na Kupuna,
and Ghost Band. The celebrity emcee for both days will
be popular local comedian Bo Irvine from Sharkey’s
Comedy Club in Waikiki.
OHANA ACTIVITIES
The Keiki Corner includes many interactive
activities including arts and crafts and a wide assortment of bouncers,
castles and mechanical rides from Xtreme Fun Rentals. The
rides are $1 to $3 with $20 wristbands available for the
entire day. Also participate in old-fashioned games
and contests such malasada, pie, pizza and other eating contests,
and relay races and games such as "Shaving Cream Shoot
Off, Jump Rope Water Spash" and many others. Bring
your family and challenge your friends in a race!
OPEN MARKETPLACE
The Open Market will feature a wide variety
of items from both local artisans and businesses. Local crafters
will display original products to sell, such as Koa products,
jewelry, clothing, shell lei, Hawaiian lei and much more.
BLOCKBUSTER MOVIES
Blockbuster movies will be shown each
night on a 30-foot screen. On Saturday, the event hosts a
double feature including: “The
Ride” and “The Day after Tomorrow” starting
at 7 pm. The director and cast of “The Ride” are
invited to present the movie. On Sunday, the movie
will be “Hildalgo” also starting at 7 pm.
FREE SHUTTLE – FREE
PARKING
Free shuttle buses will
run from several locations on the North Shore. Locations
for parking & shuttle include
Cane Haul Road between the North Shore Marketplace and the
Waialua Community Association. The shuttle bus will
run continuously on both days from 12 pm to 10:30 pm
with historical tours provided at 1, 2, and 3 pm.
