HISTORY OF "SUNSET ON THE BEACH"

The first North Shore Sunset on the Beach was held in June of 2002 in response to 9/11.  It was modeled after an event sponsored by the City and County of Honolulu and Haleiwa Main Street (now the North Shore Chamber of Commerce) to help Haleiwa businesses after a rockslide at Waimea Bay closed Kamehameha Highway for several months. Similar to the Sunset on the Beach events in Waikiki, the North Shore version continues to be a popular event with the residents of the area, as well as visitors and residents from other parts of the island.  This year the North Shore Sunset on the Beach and the Haleiwa Arts Festival are working together to create an even more memorable weekend.
