Check in with a lifeguard before you enter the water!

At the North Shore Chamber of Commerce, we take ocean safety seriously. With so many residents and visitors enjoying our beaches year-round, protecting lives in and around the water is a shared responsibility.

Our North Shore lifeguards are considered the finest in the world and are the first line of defense when it comes to ocean safety. They work tirelessly to prevent accidents, offer guidance, and step in when lives are at risk—often putting their own safety on the line. We are deeply grateful for their service and encourage everyone to respect and follow their advice.

Ocean conditions on the North Shore can be deceptive and change quickly, especially during the months of September through April. Powerful surf, shifting currents, and unexpected waves can turn a calm-looking beach into a hazardous environment in moments. Even experienced swimmers and surfers can be caught off guard.

For your safety, we strongly recommend checking in with a lifeguard before entering the water. Our guards are friendly, knowledgeable, and happy to share real-time information about current conditions. When in doubt, consider hiring a professional local guide or surf instructor—they know the coastline and can help ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.

To support your visit, we’ve created a Google Map of all lifeguard tower locations on the North Shore. Use it to plan your beach day with safety in mind.

Stay smart, stay safe, and enjoy the beauty of our ocean responsibly.
